Craftsman of KARAKI SASHIMONO

Seiji Yoshida is a skilled craftsman of KARAKI SASHIMONO, which is a traditional handcraft to make furniture out of KARAKI woods.
KARAKI SASHIMONO, was made popular during EDO era, is a craft made out of rare imported wood called KARAKI, such as the ebony wood, Indian rosewood or Burma padouk.
Since KARAKI wood is too hard be joined by nails, hidden notches and grooves are carved which are then locked by putting the two wooden pieces together.

The furniture made by KARAKI SASHIMONO has been considered to be most expensive in Japan.
